Tobacco Miscellaneous Industry Employers’ Association

 

The Tobacco Miscellaneous Industry Employers’ Association (TMIEA) was registered with the Registrar of Labour in terms of the Labour Relations Act of 1995 on the 31st of October 1986. TMIEA was formed to formalise and progress Employers’ interests with regards to labour matters that include labour law compliance, industrial relations and collective bargaining.

Given the high unionisation of employment within its constituency, the body partners Unions to create a conducive working environment within the industry. The Tobacco Miscellaneous Industry Employers Association represents all tobacco merchants and processors in Zimbabwe. Currently the association has 15 companies as members that collectively employ about 6000 (six thousand) employees during the peak of the tobacco selling season. The main purpose of the Association includes inter alia:

 

  • Develop healthy and stable industrial relations
  • Promote collective bargaining at different levels
  • Bring a unified employers’ viewpoint on the issues of industrial relations to the  government and Labour
  • Promote and protect the interest of employers engaged in buying, processing, marketing and exporting tobacco in Zimbabwe
  • Study, analyse and disseminate information relating to labour policy, labour management relations, collective bargaining
  • Offer advice concerning various aspects of labour policy
